Easter decorating

Every year it's the same. I know Easter is coming, but I still don't realise how close it is until it's almost here.

Today, Gorgeous Girl and I got the few decorations we have out of the garage. There isn't a great deal. A few [fabric eggs] I made in January 2009, some goose eggs decorated in a [vintage stlye], and some sparkly eggs bought from Sainsbury's for the past two years running.

My usual version of an [Easter tree] is to push a few twigs in with some flowers and hang eggs from them. It's simple to do and simple to remove after Easter. [this is how it looked last year]. I'm going to do it again this year, but I also thought I'd do something a little different too.

The tree in the front garden has been decorated as our Easter Tree. It looks so pretty in real life, but is really hard to photograph well. I'm planning on buying more eggs this weekend. I kept finding extra eggs throughout the day, and added them as I found them. Since this photo was taken I found more, bringing the total to around 16.
I have a few more dotted on the mantelpiece in the living room. You can open them, so you could put choccy inside and use for an Easter egg hunt. The day started off bright and sunny, so my little sweetpea and I spent quite a bit of time outside. The garden is lush and green, and bursting with floral goodness at the moment.

Froths of blossom cover the trees. And my favourite 'Angelique' tulips are out, ready for picking. I love being able to pick flowers for the house from our garden. But the weather soon started to change. So I had to get things ready for my next batch of photos.

On Friday, while leafing through the current edition of Martha Stewart Living, I spotted these little characters. Little chickies (as Gorgeous Girl calls them), made from fabric. Very simply too I might add. No hemming, just cut with pinking shears. All you need are scraps of fabric, and small pieces of felt for the beaks. They eyes are sewn with French knots.

I made three, they took hardly any time at all. To show them clearly, they were sat inside eggshells. Not any old eggshells though, the ones I covered in glitter two years ago. Yes, I kept them. They've been stashed safely in a jar in the garage because I just knew I'd need them again at some point! And here are the little Chickies, taken during break in the cloud so the sunshine could make the glitter sparkle! The can be used simply as decorations on a table, or as place settings, or, if you added a hanging loop, hanging on an Easter tree.

Something else made today was a wreath for the front door. It was made in the same way as the Valentine wreaths, and I only used things I had kicking around the house. It was meant to be elegant and discreet, but I think I missed my aim slightly. With all the feathers fluttering in the wind, it can't really be described as 'discreet'.

But the funniest thing is the slightly loopy looking pink chick. It had no eyes, which looked a bit sinister, so quick as a flash I glued on a couple of pearls and now it just looks totally scary. It's hilarious! Cracks me up every time I look at it. So I think I'm pretty much done. Other than buying a few extra sparkly eggs, and adding twigs in the vase of flowers at the weekend, that will do nicely.

I've even got some bubbles for The Girl in suitably seasonal packaging.
