prettiness on a rainy day

It's raining here this afternoon, but our home is looking quite spring like.
I don't know why, but for the past few years I've had a snooty attitude to carnations and very rarely bought them. It wasn't until last year when I bought some [sepia coloured carnations] that I realised how much I like them. They can be tricky to arrange as they're top heavy and tend to fall to the sides of the vase, but other than that they are a lovely cut flower. The petals look like the layers of ballet tutus, and in this world of selling out of season flowers, they are one of the few flowers that still smell as they should. They always have the delicate clove scent that is such a delight. Another bonus is that they last well. So why have I been so snooty about them? I really don't know. Beautiful old fashioned flowers, and they are welcome in our home!

The carnations that I bought yesterday, are on the windowsill in the living room, and are being use as my version of an [Easter Tree] The froths of pink and white petals set off the decorated goose eggs nicely.

When I worked on painting and decorating the [goose eggs] last summer, I felt slightly foolish talking about it as I must have seemed extreme with my forward planning. I know myself well, and knew that if I didn't do it nice and early then I'd leave it too late. Easter really does sneak up on me each year, I always seem to forget until it's practically here. I wouldn't have had time this year to redecorate them.
I don't do lots of decorating for Easter, just little bits and pieces. I have decorated the trees by the front door, adding pink tulle bows, little chicks and hanging eggs. I kept hold of the [glittery egg 'vases'] that I made last year, and will use them again for small spring flowers. Click on the link to see how they turned out, and to visit Martha's site, which is where the idea came from.
