a little slice of happy

Yesterday was a very lovely day. Just one of those days that you wish you could bottle and save for another time. Days like that make me think of a little book a friend sent to me years ago (thank you Pam!), a jolly little book that reminds you that the nicest things in life are often the smallest.
Nothing special happened, but I took photos of things that made me smile.

Finally planting out the runner beans. I know these pots are too small, and will change them to larger ones at the weekend, but my little plantlets desperately needed to get out and spread their roots out a bit. Wearing a favourite top. I love this top, but I don't wear it as much as I'd like, sometimes it seems to feel a bit 'maternity'. Taking time to read magazines and books.
I have many favourite magazines, but this one is the best of all. The word 'charming' is the perfect description. It is filled with beautiful photos and articles. It never fails to give me lots of inspiration.
I kept going back to one photo. I've got a feeling the kitchen chairs are going to be repainted again this year. I rather like the idea of having them in different pastel colours, rather than all the same. I had a little witch roaming the house (she's been reading a story about a witch and her broomstick and wanted to look the part) A good cup of tea is hard to beat. And seeing both the lilac and wisteria poised to burst into life was a glorious sight. Back inside, and back to the books. There is something so right about curling up in a chair, cup of tea on one side, scented candle burning on the shelf. Had it been raining it would have been completely perfect.
This is my 'fragrance of the moment', smells like you have a Cadbury's caramel melting in the room! I'm particularly pleased to have finally got my hands on this book. When I read on [Fifi O'Neill's] blog last year that she had a book due out, I immeditely added it to my Amazon wish list. It does not disappoint. Tons of inspiration is packed in to this one book. Timely too, with Gorgeous Girl's Fairy Tower on the way, I have been able to show the husband the kind of look I want it to have. If in a slightly scaled down and simplified manner.
'Romantic Prairie Style' is also a treat to look through as many of the homes featured are owned by ladies who have blogs. Blogs I visit from time to time. This gives the book a really familiar feel, making it even more of a pleasure to read.

So even though yesterday ended with a sour note, when the internet was down and I couldn't get online, the day was good.

What's making you feel happy this week?
