this & that

I noticed a few comments over the weekend that I wanted to respond to here.

The first one was regarding the brand of garden paint used on the chairs. Here they are. They have fabulous names, such as 'Harry's Deckchair' and 'Mary's Watering Can'! I believe there was an offer on at B&Q, where it was 3 for the price of two. They do stronger colours as well as the ice cream pastels.

A comment from a lady named Nicky made me smile.
She wrote '...
I've lurked on your blog for a while now and have been meaning to say thanks to you for your lovely blog and photos.

You have inspired me to "have a go" at several projects especially the ones involving my rather intimidating sewing machine. Your attitude to sewing - don't worry about the measurements just have a go - is just brilliant and made me keen to get the sewing machine out of the attic.

My daughter is now very happy with her mini-bunting in her playhouse in the garden! So thanks for the inspiration and ideas for crafts.'

It really made me happy to read this comment. As adults we spend time encouraging children to try new things, or just give things a go because making mistakes is how we learn, but often we don't do things ourselves for fear of failing or looking foolish. Seeing this comment and knowing that someone 'got it' and felt spurred on to make things was just so lovely to see. Thank you Nicky for taking the time to leave your comment.

Something I've been asked is if I am looking forward to the Royal Wedding. Absolutely! I love weddings and I especially love Royal weddings. Recent ones have been a bit low key and subdued, but this is going to be a Big Celebration. I cannot wait! I'll be glued to the tv all day with gorgeous girl. It's a Bank Holiday in celebration of it, which means schools are shut and most people have the day off work.
I would like to think that Catherine will wear something utterly divine, the rumour is that it's going to be an Alexander McQueen dress, and I am hoping that it's true. I'm hoping that the rumour that she won't be wearing a tiara is not true. Come on, she'll be a Princess and then Queen one day, you've got to wear a bit of diamond if you're destined to be Queen!

I'm most looking forward to the arrival of the Fairy Tower, which is due on Thursday. If you have no idea what I'm babbling on about, you can read about it [here]
It will be delivered flat packed, so it'll keep the husband busy next week. I made a mood board so I could see all ideas in my head in one place.
Some of you will do this already, but if you don't and wonder why I am taking time to make a montage of ideas for something that is essentially an elevated shed, well there are two reasons.
1. It's fun!
2. I can show the husband the feeling I'd like the Tower to have. Muted colours, ruffles, sparkles, a touch of the forgotten. All toned down and scaled down to suit the space.

Once decorated I am hoping ivy and roses will grow up it quickly, to give it an air of a forgotten place. If you have never made a mood board before, give it a try. Use it as an inspiration board, it's always nice to see things or looks you like grouped together.

Lots to do and look forward to this week.
