I had high hopes for it, and was so certain that it was going to work that I made another, using grapefruit and lemon peel. The two weeks steeping time ended tomorrow (Wednesday) for the orange, but I was in a cleaning mood yesterday, so strained the liquid, watered down a little, and poured into a spray bottle.
Big mistake.
The smell was not good.
I carried on, thinking the smell would settle down and if it cleaned the bathrooms well, then I could cope with it.
I was wrong. I couldn't cope with it, it was a vile smell. Took me a while to think of a good description, this is it: vinegary, with more than a hint of stale socks that have been left in a gym changing room.
It was the oddest stench, and in no way 'fresh'.
Perhaps I did something wrong when making it ~ but I followed the instructions.
Perhaps it's just because I don't like the smell of vinegar, and that clouded my view.
Either way, it wasn't good and I ended up going around the house with my normal cleaners, and air fresheners just to get rid of the smell. I can't even tell you if it worked from a cleaning point of view, as everything was clean and sparkly having been scrubbed several times over!
Ick. Never again!
I had to leave candles in bathrooms too, to cleanse the air.
Over to you! Anyone trying it out, let me know how you got on with it and if you found the smell so strange and stale smelling. I'd love to know.
The trouble with jars that have had vinegar in them, is that even after soaking, washing, running through the dishwasher, and scrubbing again, the smell of vinegar comes back if the lid is put back on.
So, I've removed the lids and stuck in the recycling, decorated the tops with string (an idea I saw on a florists' website yesterday), and turned them into vases.
Much nicer!
