from hair accessory to necklace
I bet I'm not alone in hanging on to something that I don't use, just because I like it.
A good example is a hair band that I bought a couple of years ago. It had a bit of a 1920's feel to it, with a beaded section attached to the band. It looked really nice on, but after half an hour or so I couldn't bear the way it clamped my head and would take it off.
But I couldn't get rid of it. Too pretty. It sat in a drawer doing nothing, until last week, when I thought I had to do something with it. The beads are such a pretty grey, so a necklace seemed the obvious choice.
I removed the beaded section from the hair band. At this point I considered using it as a brooch, but decided a necklace would get more use from me.
Then I started snipping the beads from the felt, and loosely arranged to get an idea of how to rethread them to make a necklace.
I could have made one long necklace, but I made two short ones.
I didn't buy anything new to make the necklaces, I had some broken jewellery pieces kicking around, including chain and clasps. And for stringing the necklaces I used dental floss! It's thin enough to thread through beads, and pretty strong too.
Really happy with my new necklaces!
