The flowers are nothing to do with this post, but I thought I'd give you something pretty to look at first.
Because yes, I'm still prattling on about my larder!
In my last post I wrote about really wanting to get the larder sorted and reorganised. I'm pretty much finished now, so thought I'd share photos.
The larder isn't just a larder. It doubles up as storage for the hoover, a basket holds bottles and jars for recycling, and a million other things end up being dumped there, so keeping it tidy is vital. As you can see, it gets a bit messy, and that's why I'm a little obsessed with keeping it orderly!
It's not the biggest space in the world, but I'm lucky because it's not a bad size at all.
At the weekend I bought a few new jars and storage boxes.
Then I emptied the shelves and got to work. At the back of the larder I kept a small table, but it was too big and not very useful. It has been taken out and painted (of course!). I'll use it elsewhere.
In its place, the husband added an extra shelf for me. I'm calling it my 'jar shelf' as that's what it's mainly for.
I love using jars, and not just for food. In the craft room cottons and beads are kept in jars, dishwasher tablets are in a jar under the kitchen sink, and in the larder, candles, wax tarts and cake cases live in them.
Birthday candles - not just for birthdays. The Girl taught me that, so I have to keep them where they are easy to find. I used to keep them in a plastic pot 'somewhere' and couldn't find them when I wanted them. I'd buy more. That's why I have so many!
This jar has cookie cutters in it right now, but I'm thinking I might keep sugar in it instead.

I found jars for flour. They weren't exactly what I wanted (was looking for straight sided jars), but I really like them. And the price was great, just £5.99 a jar. The best before dates are stuck on the bottom of the jars.

On the door I kept a paper bag for crisps and snacks. It kept ripping, so I took a potato bag and turned into a snack bag.

Onions and potatoes are kept in a wicker box, keeps them fresh and tidy.

On the floor beneath the Jar Shelf I have storage boxes filled with things I don't use on a regular basis. I have some kind of addiction to cake cases, and every time I see something new I just have to buy it and stash it away.

Now the larder looks like this.

So much better! I have jars that are still empty, but that's not a bad thing. As I've said before, it's tempting to go out and buy lots of jars exactly the same, but it's much better to buy different sizes and see what fits and what works for you. To take time, and just make changes as you go along.
Now I can work on stocking up the larder with extra things, all ready for the colder months, and I need to make and add some bunting to the back shelves.
