the latest garden project

I menioned last week that the craft room had been put on hold. The reason being that time and money could be used to buy a new playhouse for the garden. Yes. I know. It's not the first. And yes, the garden is looking pretty full these days, but full of whimsical wonderfulness!

Here it is, the new playhouse. The Girl and I have named it Mulberry Manor. As you do. I probably should have moved the bird table before taking this photo. It has taken a while to get it built, the recent non-stop rain really held things up. But we got there in the end. [The oldest Playhouse] has two main problems with it. The windows don't open, and there are no air vents. In summer it is stifling.

The new one has air vents, and two windows that open. Not only does this mean air can circulate on hot days, but it also meant I got to make more tiny curtains! The curtain fabric started life as a single duvet cover set. I bought it because it was quite a bit cheaper to buy fabric that way, instead of off the roll. How wrong is that? On the plus side, it meant I got a spare floral pillowcase, as well as a couple of metres of striped fabric from the other side of the duvet cover. Something else rather special about the house is the higher level, accessed by a tiny little ladder. Naturally, there had to be fairy lights. I spent a peaceful hour or so yesterday afternoon pinning lights up on the ceiling and above the door. I could only have them covering one side, so there was no danger of any tiny people getting tangled up with them when they climbed up the ladder to the higher floor. And a year after buying the crown that I planned to attach to the roof of the [Fairy Tower], it finally has a home. I had to admit defeat when I couldn't work out a way to perch it atop the Fairy Tower roof. But in a way, I'm glad I couldn't. I rather like the way it looks here. So now the Girl has her new playhouse. The husband has his tickets to the Olympics (1500 metre final! Talk about good luck), next on the list is my craft room! I think that's fair enough, don't you?!
