Dear Summer ....
So. I see you've arrived.
Well, it's no secret to say that we are not fans of one another.
Whereas other people jump for joy at your arrival, I am filled with dread of day after day of hot and stifling weather. I find myself having to smile and say 'Hmmm, isn't it?' when people trill 'isn't it a gorgeous day?'. Apparently, it's not 'normal' to like cold and wet weather!
I admit that you have your charms. It is lovely to get the washing out on the line, and watch it dance in the breeze. The Heavenly smell of freshly cut grass filling the air is something that should be bottled and sold as an air freshener. Having breakfast outside while the birds sing on a Sunday morning is nothing but delightful, but ... you make me 'glow' in a way that is neither attractive nor desirable. The house feels still and suffocating, and I really don't enjoy not being able to sleep at night when it is far too hot.
But I do love how you make my veggies grow. And you let me put out the table and chairs, and make my garden look so pretty each year. It gives me lots of photo opportunites.
Sitting outside with my little girl has to be one of life's pleasures.
We sit and chat, eat chocolate and have something cool to drink. She is a June Baby, and loves the warm days. Unlike her mother, an autumn baby through and through! (sorry!)
So here's the deal. I promise to try and make the most of you, and find the positives that your blue sky, fluffy clouds, and sparkly sunshine brings.
And perhaps you will find it in your heart to throw in the odd rainy day, or a gorgeous breeze just as you have today. If every day of summer was like today, then I would welcome you gladly!
Thank you for listening Summer, now, be nice!
