flower necklace

I was hesitant to write this post. I've copied something that I've wanted for a while. That's not exactly something to be proud of, but I look at this as a good example of how you can save money by making something out of things you already have.

For the past couple of years, I've really wanted to buy this necklace. It's so pretty. Clearly a lot of work went into making it. The only downside was the cost, it was almost £100. Much as I loved it and appreciated the amount of time it would have taken to make, even if I had that much to spend on myself, I wouldn't have spent it.

I looked at the website [Magpie Wardrobe] where these necklaces are sold, and found that they have now changed the design. No longer on a chain of beads and links, it's now on knotted leather. Which is ok if you like that sort of thing, but I am not a fan.

Last week I had the idea to make my own version. I gathered a stash of jewellery. A mix of things that I don't wear any more, broken jewellery, beads and links bought for the purpose of making my own jewellery. I set to work, using the original picture as a guide. It took quite some time, just making the bead and chain link base took well over an hour. But after a while, I had a necklace that I was very pleased with.

It's not has heavy with charms as the original necklace, but I can always add more. I love it, and have worn it a lot. And best of all, it really cost nothing to make as I just reused what I already had.
