bunting & napkins

Been doing a spot of sewing this week.

I placed an order with Cath Kidston last week, when it arrived it came with a free laundry bag.. Very nice, but not something I'd use. There was quite a bit of fabric to it, so I cut it into two, hemmed and stitched, and turned it into two napkins.

I removed the original labels and pinned in place so they would be stitched in with the hem. Ignore wonkiness, as usual I didn't bother to measure and do it properly. 'Good enough' is always good enough for me.

Instead of a laundry bag that I would have ignored and put in a cupboard, I've got a couple of extra napkins to add to my stash. Far more useful, as they will be used a lot. Not bad for nothing! There was a little strip of fabric left over, so I turned it into tiny heart bunting for the mirror in the hall. Talking of bunting, I wanted to put the heart bunting I made last year back up, in time for Valentine's Day. Could I find it? No. Where on earth have I put it?! I searched high and low. In the end I had to admit defeat and make some more. I make bunting as easily as I possibly can, but this was a little trickier than normal. Made by placing the fabric face to face, sewing round the shape, but leaving a gap, turning right side out and then stitching around the outline to close the opening. Don't know why I chose to do it this way, it was a lot of hassle! I always seem to be sewing when there is snow on the ground. Seems to be my favourite time to sit at the sewing machine!
