simple sparkles

Well the Fairy Tower has been built and painted. I haven't been able to add much in the way of finishing touches as my little sweet pea has been very poorly. So poorly that she hasn't even wanted to play in her Fairy Tower.

Obviously, she comes first, and looking after her is far more important than anything else.

With the tower as yet unused and undecorated, I didn't particularly feel like showing it. I'll take time to plod through bits and pieces for it, as and when nursing my poorly baby will allow. Then I can show it hopefully looking more like a Fairy Tower and less like a painted shed on legs.

She did feel up to supervising me in a speedy project this morning though.

I knew we had to have some kind of chandelier hanging up, the pitch of the roof is quite steep, so it wouldn't be constantly clomping anyone on the head.

In the garage was an old beaded lampshade with a pretty metal base that I was itching to re use. All that I needed to get my hands on was some pretty and inexpensive crystals.

This would do perfectly. Less than £8 for an awful lot of plastic sparkles. (photo from box) I just removed all of the crystals from the spidery metal centre (which my mum has taken home, she claims she can do 'something lovely' with it. Good luck with that Mother!) Then it was a case of fashioning the crystals on my almost crown like base, in what I hoped was a chandelier looking design. I've got loads left over, so could always add more sparkles, or keep them for other projects.

I was just holding it up in the above photo, to see how it would look. To hold it in place properly, I've attached chain to each of the arms of the metal base, and then attached the chains to cup hooks screwed into the ceiling.

But what is a chandelier if it doesn't have light to reflect off the crystals? Not a problem. I ordered some battery operated outdoor fairy lights last week, they have been draped around the chandelier. I'm planning on buying more fairy lights to drape on the ceiling.

Anyway. A nice, simple to do project, that was fun and kept a sickly but gorgeous little girl amused for a while.
