a bit of progress
rustic crowns available from [not on the high street]
We've been making slow progress with the Fairy Tower.
We had yet more problems with the delivery of it, when they failed to include the floor with all the pieces! Pretty vital. I could vent my rage about the whole debacle, but I won't. I'll simply say another floor was found and collected by the husband.
So things have been held up a bit.
On Monday, Gorgeous Girl helped her Daddy to clear the space for the tower, and put down foundations for it to stand on.
Only one plant needed to be dug up and re-homed, the lilac has been cut back a bit, but the orange blossom is fine where it is. On the back fence, we already have lots of ivy growing, and I am going to encourage it to grow over the tower.
The space for the tower ..
I couldn't resist buying the garden crown (top photo), to add to the roof of the tower. I've had my eye on these for a long time, and it's a nice reminder that the tower arrived during the exitement of the Royal wedding. I couldn't think of anything to do with them until now, It will look so pretty perched atop the roof, with ivy growing through it. All I need to work out now is how to attach it! (a little note to add is that you can order with confidence, even with the bank holidays holding things up, the crown was delivered very quickly. Bravo!)
Today, the husband has been busy painting and fixing the floor to the base, which wasn't as straightforward as it sounds.
The wood has been coated with a preserve, and a dirty-greyish-white is being painted over the top of the preserve. After all the trouble we've had getting the tower here, we want it to last forever!
Not very exciting photos, but you can see how things are chugging along.
pieces in various stages of painting.
The base is in place, now the rest of it needs to be attached.
By the end of the week I should have a completed tower to show you. I just wanted to blog about it as it's the only creative thing I'm involved in at the moment. The only sewing I seem to do these days is the sewing in of name labels to school uniform!
