fairy tower at dark
It has been a long week. It turned out that my little lady was suffering from tonsilitis. If you or any of your family suffer from this nasty infection then you have all of my sympathy and then some. It's absolutely horrid. Every time she looked as if she was starting to get over it, a fresh wave of fatigue and illness would wash over her and knock her off her feet.
Thank you for all the kind comments wishing my little princess well, and for all the lovely tweets too. It was so nice to see all the good wishes, and I appreciate it.
It's been a worrying and hard week. But, when I could, to try to keep my mind focused, I did a little bit of sewing for the Fairy Tower and made a few changes.
Last night, I waited until it was getting dark, and took my camera and a cup of tea, and spent a few peaceful moments outside.
The crown has yet to be placed on the top of the roof (still kicking around ideas of how to attach it), and I rearranged to fairy lights from the chandelier.
These lights are so lovely. I am going to buy lots, so they can be draped around the chandelier again, and all over the ceiling.
Still very much a work in progress, but it's taking shape.
The curtains used to be at the window of the main bedroom, but time and washing took their toll, leaving them discloured and ripped. I didn't want to throw out the fabric, and I'm glad I didn't. Cut down and hemmed, they make perfect drapes for the tower. Held in place with some silk flowers, it adds a pretty touch.
In winter we will need to make the tower more weather proof. Inspired by the windows of Gingerbread House, I'm thinking wooden framed perspex windows, that can be pushed in the windows and tacked in place. My dad suggested a taupaulin over it (men!), but as I plan to decorate the tower for Christmas I don't want it covered up.
I'm not sure the photos show just how pretty it looks at night, but you get the idea. As changes are made, I'll show photos. Still lots to be done, including work on the roof. The paint colour isn't as bright snow white as it looks, it has a very subtle grey hint to it (would have preferred more of a grey to it, but the only options were this one, or a dark battleship grey!), we think the roof should be darker. It'll look so nice in a year or two, when the ivy already growing along and behind the tower starts to take hold, and the paint has faded and started to chip a little.
Now I just need the tiny person whose tower it is, to get well enough to play in it.
