flowers & glitter

I was asked to make a wedding bouquet to be used as a backdrop for something.
I kept the colours of the bouquet neutral, and the overall bouquet small and quite discreet.

Ahead of time, I made some ribbon to use for the handle and to turn into a bow. I cut white dress lining into strips and hemmed the edges. The reason for doing this was because I wanted to thread the bow through a diamante buckle, so it had to be thin and easy to push in to place. I wanted the ribbon to look a bit crumpled and vintage looking too, so this worked perfectly.
Ordinarily, the ribbon would have tied all the way down the stems, covering the tulle netting and making a comfortable handle. As these were to be kept in water until they were needed, having a half ribbon tied handle made more sense.

En route to town last week, I walked past a florists and spotted a tied bouqet that had been finished off with white tulle netting. They'd used it on the handle, but I thought it would look quite dramatic as a froth around the outside of the flowers. I went into my favourite haberdashery shop and managed to find a metre of netting in the remnant box. I'd planned to buy large headed white roses, but of course, when I went to the supermarket on Saturday, they didn't have them. I rootled around and went for the next best thing, smaller headed white roses. All of the foliage is from the garden. Stems of rosemary were dotted throughout, and long fronds of ivy were tied in place to frame the flowers.

Tied bouqets are very easy to make, and quick to do too - as long as you practice. I made my own wedding bouquet on the morning of my wedding, it was THAT quick to do.
This would work nicely as a Mother's Day gift too (don't forget Brit girls, Mother's Day is THIS coming Sunday).

We managed to find time to stop off at 'The Range' to buy some glitter to use on the glittery letter gift tags that I showed [in this post]. The colours are just gorgeous, a bit vintage looking and will work well with the pastel tissue paper I use as gift wrap. The pale duck egg blue colour takes a lot of layers to give a good coverage. You can see in the photo that they still look a bit patchy, and need to be glittered again. I'm making sure I do the initials of family members, but I'm doing as many letters as I can, so I've always got spare ones too. I'm using different styles of wooden letters, and cardboard letters. Both work well, but I prefer the look of the card letters. Saturday afternoon we had a good dose of rain, but on Sunday the sun was out, so out into the garden we went. To spend time doing some gardening, and playing 'Spot The Lou-Lou' with Gorgeous Girl (she calls Ladybirds 'Lou-Lou's'). And a little tribute to Elizabeth Taylor. When we were looking for plants for baskets and pots, I spotted these sweet peas. Sweet Pea Elizabeth Taylor. I'm sure they'll be almost as beautiful as the lady herself. * a little note. I'm having computer troubles today. My pc seems to have gone insane and I can't sort it out. The laptop is a tempermental thing, sometimes works, sometimes doesn't, always switches itself off when it's in the mood. So, it looks like I'll be on a forced blog break for a while. Hopefully not for too long, but if things are quiet round here, then you know the reason why. I'll tweet as and when I am able, so you will probably be more likely to find me there.
