the need to sew

I really wanted to sew something today. Didn't know what, but I had the urge to be creative.

Best laid plans and all that. My little girl has needed her Mama today, so I've been busy with her, and doing what felt like a never ending glut of laundry.

However, I gathered together a few books so I could have a quick flick through the pages as and when I could, to try and decide what to make. The trouble is, I don't have a great deal of fabric at the moment. I've let my stock run right down. I know I'm going to end up making more bunting, scraps of fabric are ideal to use and scraps are all I have. I am still really enjoying making bunting, so to make more would suit me fine (it's even hanging up in the downstairs toilet!).
I love browsing the pages of sewing books. Even though I know I'll never follow the instructions to make any of the ideas on offer.

Take the [Anna Maria Horner] book 'Seams to me'. It's utterly divine (as is this lady, she has six children - six! - and manages to sew like an angel and write books. How? HOW?!!).
I love the styles, her fabric choices, even her simple to follow instructions. There is a pocket at the back of the book containing patterns. I've never taken them out, and I doubt I ever will. I don't have the discipline or patience to work from a pattern. They can stay safely in their pocket until my little girl is old enough to want to make things, perhaps she will use them.
I hope so. The signs are good, and my little one is a creative girl. I would love to pass on to her the love of making things, and if she could sew clothes and make her own curtains, I think she'll have a skill for life that she will be glad of.

So yes, paltry stash of fabric, I have no doubt you will become bunting soon. Once I've found a moment to start sewing, that is.

One thing I absolutely made time to do today, was to venture out into the (sunny!) garden and pick a bunch of the large headed crocuses. They are so beautiful, I needed a little of their beauty inside.
