With my invitation to the Royal Wedding apparently missing in the post (clearly the only possible explanation!), I thought I'd make a little something patriotic to hang up on the day itself. Bunting! What else?! I do enjoy running up a bit of bunting. You can make it as complicated or simple as you like. Whatever suits you. I always opt for simple.
I really am down to scraps of fabric, but that's all you need for bunting anyway, and if adding stripes to look like a flag, then scraps are perfect.
A white sheet was sacrificed for the base fabric.
For the best part of Friday, the kitchen - a.k.a, my office - looked a complete mess. I am not a tidy person when being creative. I get so carried away with whatever it is I'm working on, that I don't realise just how much of a mess I've made until afterwards. I didn't care, I was just happy to get some sewing time in.

I mentioned that I don't like to work from patterns, this is the closest I get to working with a pattern. A scribbled design on greaseproof paper.
I used this template so that my little union jack bunting was more or less level. I'm never bothered if things aren't perfect, but I did want them to look reasonably level. After lots of sewing, moaning and ironing, the bunting was finished.
I tried to be creative by taking photos out in the garden, as that's where it will be hanging once the rainy days ease off (it's raining again this morning). I have left edges raw so each flag can fray nicely. I want it looking raggedly, but not drenched and bedraggled. Not just yet.

Not a great success, it's hard to make out the patterns and detail. My Little Lady wanted to have it hanging up in the dining room, so that's where it is.

Enjoy your weekend. I'm planning on making a chocolate tart after finding a very simple looking recipe. If it turns out ok, I'll write about it on Monday.
