My little Diva and I have been out and about this morning, taking a jaunt into town. The sun is out, the air is crisp, it was a perfect day for a long walk.It turned out to be a really good shopping trip. The little house that she wanted from Early Learning Centre had 20% off, and only one left in stock. Clearly, it was meant to be, and we snapped it up quickly.
After a few brief stops, and a pit-stop in Starbucks, we wound our way down to Primark.
For the past few weeks, I've seen a really pretty vintage style skirt in magazines, the shop selling it was Primark. Every time I've gone in there, I've scoured the rails looking for it.
I'd given up hope of seeing it. When something is featured heavily on fashion pages, it tends to sell out almost before it reaches the shop floor. I didn't have high hopes of finding it in stock.I was muttering 'I'll have a quick look, but they won't have it', and as the words left my mouth, I saw it. The Skirt. Just the one, on a rail all by itself. The hanger said size 8 (yeah, I wish!), but I picked it up anyway. The size inside the skirt said it was several sizes larger than the 8 that I have never been, or ever will be. When shopping in Primark you have to bear in mind that their sizing is a law unto itself. Use it as a guide, but then totally ignore it. I always buy at least a size larger than normal in there. Once I made a schoolboy error, when I bought a skirt in my actual size, got it home then found I couldn't zip it up. What was I thinking? Basic mistake.
I held the skirt up, dithering if I should get it or not. I had the exact amount in my purse to pay for it, but really needed to scoot into Marks & Spencer for some bread.
This is one of the many reasons as to why I love my little girl so very much. She really understands how it feels to quite literally HAVE to buy something, and she could tell that I really, really, wanted to get it. She gets it. I explained that I needed to buy bread, and didn't have the cash to buy both.
Me: I can't buy it, it's all the money I have left
Gorgeous Girl: but you can get it mum
Me: yes, but I should buy bread
GG: well, just buy it!
Me: ok then! I'll email daddy and ask him to get bread on his way home.ha!
So I did.
I bought it. And it fitted. Perfectly.
(I love this photo, it was taken by my Little Diva. I gave her the camera and told her what to do. Patrick Demarchelier, watch out!)I am so pleased with it. It's so rare for me to actually be able to buy something I've seen in a magazine. I bet you all understand that too. To find it, and have all the signs tell me that I HAD to buy it, well, it's just fantastic! I think there may even have been a jig at the till point as I paid for it. (I corrected the lady on the till who said to a colleague that 'old fashioned stuff always comes back round again', I had to point out that it wasn't old fashioned, but 'vintage')
I didn't expect it to have any kind of underskirt, but it did. Look!
It's not often I go into such raptures over clothing, but I can't help it this time. I am very happy!Even though I am loving my skirt, I have to say that the best buy of the day is the trilby hat bought for my Fashionista. It's floral, and came from Peacocks (£5). Here she is wearing it (and my skirt).
I also found some rather fabulous oversized sunglasses with black/floral frame for myself. We are definitely ready for when sunnier weather kicks in.
