White Thursday

Not a white Thursday exactly, but 'White, cream, shades of pale pink and other subtle colours' wasn't really a snappy title.

Since August we've been surrounded by pumpkins, and autumn & Halloween decorations. Gorgeous Girl wanted everything out early. I've loved it, but it feels like orange, purple and black have been around for a very l-o-n-g time, and now I'm more than ready to get rid of it all. I will wait until November 1st before I remove everything, as it's all been put up for Little One and she loves seeing it. If I could remove all traces now and get away with it, then I would.

I feel the need to strip away the garish colours, and clear the house of all hanging decorations and pumpkins and get back to normal. Have a simple, basic - peaceful - look to the house. It feels as if both house and my mind have been full of clutter and I am keen to sweep it all away.

So I am planning for November to be my 'White Month'. To clear my mind and home of colour and appreciate a soothing palette. A time for simplicity, tranquility and elegance. I can't explain it, I just need to clear out, simplify, and soften the colour in the house. Unusually for me, I'm in no rush this year to start decorating for Christmas.I've already made a little start. With white flowers in vases, using simple vessels to display them in. Glass vases, jam jars, and plain jugs. Scented white candles are placed around the house in jam jars. I'm craving pearls & roses, and appreciating the beauty that is still in our garden.

I have the urge to bundle myself and Gorgeous Girl up warmly on cold mornings, and take long walks. Enjoy the feeling of cold on my face as we walk.
(fake fur only in this house)

I need to treat myself to some luxury for the bath, and make time to actually use it. And take heed of this phrase. I'm also plotting on buying some new white bedlinen. White (or creamy white) is definitely the colour of choice. Normally at this time of year I embrace dark, warm colours. This year I want washed out and barely there colours.
Once I've had a good 4 or 5 weeks of what I consider simple living, I can brace myself for getting ready for Christmas. Actually, I have a Christmas project that I need to work on during November, but as it's only the one project I can relax and work on it over a few weeks. There is no rush. Usually I put decorations up right at the start of December, but I think I'll leave it a little later this year, a week or so into December. I'm sure even though this is a bit of a strange post, that many of you understand exactly what I mean.
