there's no place like home

After all the horrible stuff that's happened in England lately, I thought I'd share a few photos of my part of the world to show that it isn't all doom and gloom. Walk with me, around the place that I call home.

I don't live in a large city, I don't live in a tiny village, I live in a town. Roughly 90 minutes or so from London, less than 30 minutes in another direction and I can be at the seaside. For me, this is the perfect location.

Recently, to celebrate Gorgeous Girls birthday, we took her into town to have lunch. We have a very 'restaurant-y & antique-y' area in town, and it really is very pretty around there. It's full of life and beautiful buildings. Interior shops live there, as well as one off boutiques. I turned tourist and took a few photos, I thought it would be nice to show them here.

The photo at the top of this post is one of my favourite streets in the centre of town. There is an antique bookshop there, which has been there as long as I can remember.

Some streets and roads have been paved over completely for pedestrian use only, but some still have cobbles. Very hard to walk on in heels! Two photos of the same street, showing old buildings, new buildings in the distance, and a very old church right at the end. Antique shops line this particular street. Tricky getting photos when looking into glass, but you get the idea. Love the ornate round mirror and the gorgeous chair. You can just about make out the chandeliers hanging up, they were stunning.
This little bar/restaurant is tucked away down a little side street Wherever you walk, you will come across churches and graveyards. They nestle in amongst the shops in the town centre, and are dotted around the quayside too. Talking of the quayside (or the waterfront as it's often called), here it is. A truly wonderful place to visit, again there are lots of good restaurants, my favourite hotel is here, and new flats have gone up over the past few years.

The old customs house on the waterfront. Even the drive back home takes us down one of my favourite roads. The trees either side of the road just about touch, giving the impression of driving or walking through a tree lined tunnel.
Hope you enjoyed your little tour. It might not be perfect here, but it's home and as Dorothy quite rightly said, 'there's no place like home'.
I'd better switch off. I can hear rumbles of thunder overhead.
