Sometimes, when I work on a project, even though I have appeared to have finished it, I know deep down that I haven't actually finished with it yet. Does anyone else have that too?A good example is the picture I made to mark the birth of my daughter. Back in 2006, before I gave birth, I saw a photo in the British edition of 'Country Living' showing a handmade picture that I just loved. Less lovely was the asking price of over £60. Yikes! This is the kind of picture I mean ..
I knew I could make something similar, but of course immediately after The Rascal was born, time was something I was incredibly short of. By September that year I had managed to make my version of the picture. Not only was it significantly cheaper, but I was able to use outgrown babygros and body suits, making it more precious and personal.
I used a wooden frame, and had purple card around each picture. I have tried to find my old photos taken at that time, but cannot find them anywhere.
Yesterday I painted the frame and distressed it, and covered the purple card with a Laura Ashley wallpaper sample acquired recently.
This is how it looks now.
I copied the one I saw almost exactly, with shoes, initial, and babygro pictures. The little luggage label on the centre inital picture has the date of birth of my baby. Close ups..
When I opened the back of the frame to take everything out, I found a little note I'd placed in there for my darling daughter to find later on in her life. I'd completely forgotten I'd put it there. This is such a lovely thing to do to mark the birth of a child. Very simple to make yourself, but if you aren't so inclined and want to buy something like this, then you can do so [Here]Yesterday, by sheer chance, I found a superb site that I have never visited before ~ [Craft Stylish]. What a fantastic place to visit. It has lots of brilliant crafty ideas for everyone, of all craft ability levels.
I took a look around, and found a tutorial for a [floral fascinator] This was so timely for me. At the weekend I had the idea to make an alice band using the [flat roses] I made in March. I had a loose idea in my mind of what I wanted to do, but no real plan on how to go about it. I decided to brood on it for a while. Then I happened upon the floral fascinator idea and thought it would be pefect, and decided to not use the flat roses, but silk flowers instead. The creator of the floral fascinator suggests it for a wedding. I wanted something for everyday, so altered it slightly to suit my requirements, but other than that, I followed the tutorial on how to make it [floral fascinator tutorial can be found here]
Somewhere in this house I have a stash of these elasticated hairbands.
It has not been easy to get a decent photo of the finished alice band/fascinator in action, so here are a few photos (I won't show step by step pics, as it's not my 'how to').

It may not look like it, but it took an hour to make. I love it, and will wear it a lot.
