flowery creations

I made myself a little bag today. I can't show you close ups, because as always I couldn't be bothered to measure anything, so in places it is very wonky. It's not a bag to use outside of the house, so it doesn't matter. My little Cath Kidston make up bag is perfect for me, it's small enough to stop me from overfilling and holding on to ancient lipsticks. If I had a large make up bag I'd just stuff it full of rubbish, and never throw out old make up.
That said, there are times when I go to use my lipliner or something, only to find it has fallen out and The Beautiful Girl has found it and used it to draw on the wall (sadly, not a joke).

I made a bag slightly larger, and popped the make up bag inside. The sides are straight, but velvet is so floppy they've fallen inside, which I rather like. Really easy to do, and I've just used thick ribbon as handles.

Inside I've lined it with a ditsy floral fabric, because the velvet I used really needed some kind of backing. I made the bag up as I went along, but the idea for ribbon handles and silk flowers to decorate was not from my imagination.

In the June 2005 editon of British 'Country Living', I saw this photo - and kept the magazine for this reason. Beautiful handmade bags for weddings and other special occasions. Aren't they pretty? I have no idea how much they sold for, as I followed the website address and it's no longer there. The next best thing to buying one, was to make my own. It's nowhere near as good, but I like it.

I made this yesterday. It's a hair slide made up of a normal hair clip and a felt rose. Very, very quick and simple to make. I think it took me about 15 minutes in total.

I followed the instructions and cut out my pieces of felt, this is all that was needed. Again, this is not my idea, but a tutorial I found via Craft Stylish. If you want to make them yourself, then just click on this link [felt rose hair slide]. The only thing I would say is not to cut the outer petal shapes until you've made the rose bud, so you can make them large enough. The smaller, four petal shape in my photo was too small, so I had to cut another.

My little sweet pea was happy to model her new hair slide for me.
Apologies for blurry pictures, I'm still using my old camera. Sometimes it takes a sharp photo, other times it's blurred. (Ok, nothing to do with the camera, I'm just rubbish at taking photos!)
