Recycle and reuse

I like to think that we recycle as much was we can in this house. Our blue recycling wheelie bin is always filled to capacity, bottles and jars (when not being used as vases or storage) are taken to the bottle bank, unwanted clothes given to charity collections. We have a compost heap in the back garden, and if anyone leaves a TV on standby, I go beserk. It was incredibly important to us that the sofas were recycled and not just taken to the dump. If something can be reused then it makes me happy.

So I was delighted when I went into the front garden yesterday afternoon, and found the husband (who was sorting out the garage with the help of Gorgeous Girl) had placed the old and rusted up BBQ in the flowerbed on the other side of the driveway. It was such a pretty and simple idea that I just had to show it here. He thought it would look nice, especially when ivy started winding itself through and around.

The broken pot on top was my contribution. It's a sad fact that you always have to bear in mind that there are unfortunates in this world who will steal, given half a chance.
At least if some fiend tries to walk off with this pot, it's likely to crack and break even more, but if it's left alone it will be perfect. I also think it looks rather lovely, and makes the little display look like it's been there for years, and it's much nicer than breaking it up to use as crocks at the bottom of a pot. I just love this idea, it look very 'Secret Garden' and gives a whimsical air. I wish I had a rusty old bicycle with a basket on the front that I no longer used, how fabulously eccentric would it look left leaning up against a fence, with flowers trailing from the basket?!
