a little me time

I've been doing something that I haven't done since before Gorgeous Girl was born. Getting up as soon as I wake up, making a cup of tea, and taking a stroll around the garden.

This happens at around 5.45 each morning, as I'm usually awake by 5.30. I leave the household sleeping - even Dudley the cat doesn't stir - and I go outside and just breathe in the air, take a moment to gather my thoughts, and listen to nothing more than the sound of traffic in the distance and the birds singing their songs up in the trees. These are my moments. My solitude and peace. It only lasts 5 or 10 minutes but I cherish this time. It's all I need to get myself ready for the day. After I became a Mum, I never thought I'd want to get up early ever again, I just wanted to sleep any chance I got! But that was when I was dealing with the demands of a newborn throughout the night and day.

Things are back to normal now, and getting up early has become a treat once more. I took these photos yesterday evening, after a heavy downfall had cleared and the sun came out. They seemed perfect for this post.

How do you refresh your batteries and give yourself time to breathe? I'm not suggesting this idea is for everyone, but what I would suggest is that regardless of what fills your day ~ if you are out at work in a busy town or city, or if you are home looking after children each day ~ try to give yourself just a quiet moment at some point during the day. Make yourself a cup of tea or coffee, or a cold drink, find a place where you can be alone for a while, and just give yourself a moment to unwind and be alone with your thoughts.
Make time for you :o)
