decorating - the start!

I love thinking about and plotting redecorating a room. Getting all the samples of paint, wallpaper and fabric, seeing which we like, discarding those we don't.
I have a little notebook that I carry around with me at all times, into which I have glued pictures from magazines of colours, styles, light fittings and room sets. I keep my fabric swatches and paint cards in there too. Sometimes I think I enjoy the planning stage more than the getting started.

But started we are. My husband has the week off work this week, and after lots of chatting and dithering, the paint has been bought and the curtains ordered. The fabric for the curtains is one of the samples shown above, not telling which though! I'll show the finished room when it's ... well... finished!

The paint colour is Duck Egg. I think it is just yummy. Even yummier is finding this red sticker stuck on it! Every little helps. We have been very productive with our decisions this week. This morning we went to a tile shop to seek out the tiles for the shower room that's up for a revamp in a few weeks' time. We knew exactly which ones we were looking for and I am very pleased with them. They aren't patterned or dramatic, they are plain white but we think they are just beautiful.
I found a photo of them in a bathroom online, so have used their photo (this is NOT our bathroom!). We are having the tiles shown on the top half of the wall in this photo. They are from the V&A Victorian range. We will have the thin white border tile around the corner sink, but that's all the 'fussiness' we will have. We want to room to look classic and simple, timeless and beautiful, as well as being practical. Quite a lot to ask of from just one room! The sink in the photo is very similar to the one we will be having, though ours is a corner sink as the room is small. I've found some rubber flooring online that we have decided will be perfect, and the paint is going to be one of Farrow & Ball's whites. Not sure which one, though I admit this tester pot was bought first because I love the name! Photos will follow. Work will start on the shower room the first or second week of May. I forget when exactly.

The husband is currently up a ladder, making a start on the first coat of paint. So it's goodbye to the dark Victorian green of the dining room. I loved it, but after nearly 9 years it is time for a change! Oh how I love to decorate!!!!

What do I do while the husband gets on with the work? Well, I plan the next project and make a lot of tea of course ;o)
