This morning I took my camera around the house, and snapped photos of all the things that I am really loving this Christmas, so I could put it together in a montage. There are so many little details that I want to remember, and recreate again next year. The way the house looks this year is without doubt my favourite to date.We are still very cold here, and buried under snow and ice. I made sure Gorgeous Girl was safe, warm, and happily playing with one of her early Christmas toys, then I went outside to clear the garden path.
Shovelling snow isn't my idea of fun, but I'd hate it if someone slipped and hurt themselves because I'd been too lazy to get out there and do it. I marvelled at the icicle hanging by the front door (I just know it's going to fall on my head soon!)..
And the way the ice encases the fairy lights is simply magical. It's like each light has been caught inside a huge diamond.
I adore this time of year, and I just love cold weather. I think the snow and ice are starting to thaw out. I could hear the creaking of ice as it started to slide, and watched the snowy ice attached to branches of trees fall to the ground this afternoon. I hoped - and still do - that it would last until Friday, but if it doesn't, it doesn't matter. I've enjoyed this bitterly cold snap, and am grateful for it. The past few Christmases have been mild and *shock* sunny at times, at least it's cold and grey, which is as it should be at this time of year in England.
I've also been busy in the house with Beautiful Girl. We have filled Dudley's Christmas stocking with lots of goodies, and have kept hot water bottles full, so we could snuggle with them on the sofa with a Christmas film, a cup of hot tea (me) and a cup of juice (Little One).
I've been a tiny bit creative too. I think I've mentioned before that I bought some beautiful handmade glass Father Christmas decorations at the start of the year (or end of last), that were reduced. The shop that I bought them from stocked them again this Christmas, and when we went there yesterday, had reduced them to half price again. I had to get more. Tiny Girl and I immediately covered them in glue and glitter to cover up the bright red glass, and left to dry. I've shown them here halfway through the process.
I wanted to glitter them so I could have them on the tree this year. I was attaching ribbon to them, and managed to drop and smash one! Gutted! I am such a clatter hands. Why I didn't do this at leisure, sitting down in a room with carpet on the floor, rather than standing in the kitchen which has a lovely but very hard tiled floor is beyond me. Father Christmas didn't stand a chance!
