The supermarket we go to each week is having a refit. After three weeks of frustration of not being able to find what I needed to get (why do they choose to do these things so close to Christmas?! Arggh!), I admitted defeat and we went to another supermarket instead. I'm so glad we did. I had a lovely time perusing all the homewares and Christmas goodies. I spotted two tier cake stands on special offer. One was creamy in colour, with a peach rose pattern. The other, white, with a dark blue butterfly toile pattern. Dilemma. Which one to choose. I opted for the toile simply because it was so elegant. The price? see for yourself.
Bargain! You just have to love Morrisons for their special offers. The weekend has felt very festive. We went looking for a real Christmas tree for the living room yesterday, but came home empty handed. A tad too early perhaps. We did however, stop off at a DIY shop to buy a creamy coloured artificial tree to put in the Hubby's den. Years ago I sprayed a green artificial tree with black spray paint to use in the den. This year I decided that it needed to look girly and vintage! Luckily, I'm married to a very understanding man who is happy to let me just get on with it. :o)
To help with the festive mood of the day, I cooked a Christmas Dinner. Sort of. Chicken instead of turkey, but other than that it was The Business. Yum. I'm a Short Cuts kind of person - you won't find me elbow deep in giblets and stock, trying to make gravy on Christmas morning, sorry Delia! - so if I can get a helping hand, then I take it. Last week I tried out prepping and freezing roast potatoes, so I can stop lining [Aunt Bessie's] pockets (sorry if you are from outside the UK and have no idea what I'm on about in the section). According to {Delicious. Magazine], the best way to do this is by parboiling your spuds, then fluffing them up and letting them cool. Once cooled, open freeze on a tray, then transfer into freezer bags. I did so and when I cooked them today they turned out perfectly well, so I will be doing this on a regular basis now. The Bisto gravy sachet is a new try for me. It was ok, but I won't be using it on Christmas Day.
Back to decorating. I've left the tree in den fairly simple, just a few lights and baubles, some cuddly snowmen and Hello Kitty on the top. (Gorgeous Girl *LOVES* Hello Kitty). Some pictures...
Spent an hour or so making some more organza bows this afternoon. Am I obsessed?!
The snowmen and ladies are usually on our main tree in the living room. I don't want them on there this year, but couldn't bear to not use them at all.
The husband has the week off work this week, so we'll track down a real tree at some point. Now I've made a start, I'm keen to get the rest of the trees up. We usually have 4 or 5 in total. I love Christmas! After all of my festive efforts, I rounded off the day with a mug of [Horlicks] and some white choccy covered Oreos. I am so Rock 'N Roll !!!!
