As I haven't been very crafty lately, I thought I'd show you four things that I have made since my daughter was born. I must add that everything you see here is hand sewn, as everything was made before the arrival of my now much loved sewing machine on New Year's Eve 2008!
The first is a picture of what is meant to look like our house to show the weather. I stuck a dot of velcro above the house in the sky, then made a selection of weather graphics with velcro on the back for her to place in the sky. I wanted her to be aware of the weather, which is why I decided to make this for her. (Well, we are British and weather is an obsession with us. It's good to start her off early!)
The original weather graphics got a bit battered, so I needed to replace them. This picture shows the original ones on the left hand side, the updated ones on the right.I would love to say to you that my little girl uses these each day, but I'd be a liar. She's a typical toddler, who manages to hide things all over the house so I can't find them. Most of the pieces are 'who knows where?!'!! I find them from time to time, and hope that one day I can find all the pieces and keep them safely for her.
Last year I made something that I am very proud of. A Christmas calendar. I had a sudden idea of making one with pockets so I could fill each pocket with some choccy for her to scoff as she counts down to Christmas.
This is how it started off ..
I started it at the end of October, to give myself a full month to work on it if needed. As it turned out, I finished it by the end of the first week in November.Progress ...
Detail close up.
It was quite fun to do and now my little girl has a unique calendar that she can look forward to using each year.
:o) It is easy to make, and again I will say that you could easily make something like this without sewing a stitch. One thing I will say though, is that if you make anything for your children, date it and leave a little note on the back. I have done this with absolutely everything that I have made for her. I sew a little message on a square of felt, then stitch to the back of the picture. It adds a nice touch.
