It was with a bit of a shock earlier this week, that I realised it was officially Autumn and yet I hadn't done any seasonal decorating. To rectify this, I got the Autumn wreath out of the garage. Normally I am thrilled to see it again, but this year it didn't feel right. Too orange and too colourful for our front door I decided. The door used to be red, but now it's a pale sage green the wreath didn't look right on it, I wanted it to have more of a delicate look. I painted some of the orange berries with cream paint, removed the gorgeous burnt orange bow and replaced with a large ivory organza one. With a little sprinkling of pale peachy millinery flowers, I was finally happy. I had to be careful to keep it autumnal and not make it look overly wintery.
I also threw together a very quick display on the bench in the front garden. I couldn't find the small besom brooms I keep for seasonal displays (husband has been sorting out the garage and moved them to a mystery place that even he can't find), so I improvised. I found a wooden pole, then chopped up a twig garland I have, and tied with string. A pumpkin was added to the trug that I always have on the bench and the display was complete.
Last month I showed this idea for [decorating pumpkins]. I said I couldn't remember where I'd got the idea from for decorating pumpkins. I should have realised it must have been down to Martha, but didn't realise until an email arrived a few days ago.
These pretty pumpkins are so easy to do, simply paint on glue and cover with glitter. You can watch a video of Martha doing just that [here] So pretty. I'm going to buy some teeny tiny gourds to cover with glitter and dot them around the house. My little girl will love them.
