pretty in pink

Recently we celebrated our little girl's birthday. We held a small tea party for her, and of course 'pink & girly' had to be the theme.

I don't have many photos to share, but I thought I'd show you a few of the ways I like to decorate for a celebration in the garden.

We were able to have the gazebo up, and where the sides were held open I pushed in a few silk peonies. Inside the gazebo I pushed silk gerbera where the sides were attached to the poles. I love to decorate the garden with flowers, and use anything and everything as vases. Here I've used a watering can and a small pink bucket. The table was decorated with layers of pink. I started with an inexpensive pink paper tablecloth, then piled on orgazna for a whispy, delicate effect. I took this photo as I started setting food out, to keep creepy crawlies away from everything, I covered the top completely with a layer of ivory net. It's my Top Tip for keeping everything covered at once.
Pink flowers were used inside the house and outside, dotted around the garden and on the table.
You can even use your colour theme in the food. I whipped some double cream to pile into meringues and top with strawberries. To make the cream pale pink, I just added a little bit of pink food colouring. I wasn't too heavy handed with the food colouring, I wanted a delicate hue rather than a shocking pink.

All in all, a very pretty and pink celebration. If you are having a BBQ or outdoor party this summer, why not pick a colour theme and have fun thinking of ways of carrying the colour throughout. You can make paper flower decorations, I used [This How To] idea from Martha Stewart, to make a few flower pom poms. I didn't take a photo, which is probably just as well. They didn't turn out as well as Martha's!
