I had fun working with the wooden letters yesterday. I found some thin wooden strips in the garage and used those to back the letters. I attached the letters at the base, so they would sit flush to the wooden strips. This was so I could use the signs on a shelf, or windowsill, on top of mirrors, picture frames or even on top of door frames. If I wanted to make one to hang on a wall, I'd have the wooden strip attached to the centre of the backs of the letters, and would paint the strip in a colour to match the room I planned to have it in.The Christmas one is very sparkly, and decorated with two of the ballet dancer cake decorations that I also covered with glitter.
Excuse the wet glue in the photos. I took the signs out to dry in the garden and couldn't resist taking photos as the sun was shining and making them sparkle.I will sound completely over the top by saying this, but I don't like texture of the silver glitter. It's nice and sparkly, but too chunky for my liking. I prefer using finer glitter, like the one used on the purple of the ballet dancer in the top photo. I intend to make another Christmas sign, reading 'Noel', I'll make sure I use fine glitter for that. I still like how the sign looks in a shelf though.
I made another sign saying 'dream'.
I painted it in a very pale pink, then coated with white glitter, translucent glitter with the tiniest hint of colour, metal flower charms and a tiny paper rose. Here it is on the door frame in the pink bedroom.
I need to finish it off properly, but cutting down the wooden strip either side of the letters. Then I'm going to move it onto the windowsill instead, it looks better there. I took this photo to show it clearly.I started working on one spelling out my daughters' name, and will finish that over the weekend. Then I'll make the 'Noel' one. They are nice and easy to make, and reasonably quick to do. Why not give it a try? It doesn't have to be for Christmas, you could make one using any word or name you choose, and it doesn't have to be caked in glittler. They look very nice just painted.
