a bit of decorating

At last the redecoration of the bedroom is complete. I thought I'd show you a few photos.
Before.. After... After much searching, we finally decided the wallpaper we liked most of all was from a well known DIY shop. Laura Ashley had nothing I liked particularly, and as much as I love everything Cath Kidston does, none of the wallpapers appealed to me enough. I didn't care where the wallpaper came from, as long as it looked pretty and faded.
Only two walls have been papered, any more and it would have been overkill. The rest have been painted in a very pretty pale peachy/pink/creamy colour.

I have to praise my lovely hubby here, and say how lucky I am to be married to a man who not only is more than happy to let me cover the house in the colour pink and lots of flowers, but is happy to do the hard work when I decide walls need to be repainted or wallpapered. I am very lucky.

I've been having some kind of Lampshade Obession over the past few weeks. You might remember I showed you how I make [slip covers] for one specific lampshade in the bedroom. Well, I made another one in a pale powder blue fabric, and attached my blue vintage flowers as they were starting to fall apart. I liked it, but wasn't totally happy with it, so made another, using the fabric that I'd used to cover the armchair with, and finishing off with some pale pink velvet ribbon and a vintage style rose.
I'm using the one on the right at the moment, but I love that I have a choice between three in total when I fancy a change.

I keep a stash of my little girls old baby clothing. There are some things you just can't part with. A tiny pink ballet tutu was one of the 'can't part with' items. I must just point out that trying to dress a tiny baby in a tutu has to be one of the most stupid things in the world, totally impractical, but I just had to buy it when I saw it. Anyway, when I found it again last week I had the sudden notion of using it as a lampshade cover (see? Obsessed?!), so that's what I did. It was a tad too big, but I did not want to alter it at all. Rather than making any cuts or sewing alterations, I simple tied it tightly to the shade with a pink ribbon, tied in a bow and finished with a brooch. Opposite the bed is a recessed area where the TV and the constantly changing lampshade live. We decided to wallpaper the back wall of the recess, which is where I have the mirror that I've shown you several times before. I think it looks absolutely gorgeous against the floral wallpaper. Pennies are tight for everyone at the moment, but if you are itching to make some kind of change to a room but don't have a great deal of cash to spend, then shop around for bargain priced pictures or wall art. I love The Range and Dunelm for this, and find most of my best buys there.
Like this. A very pretty vintage style postcard canvas print. And these framed pictures of peonies and blossoms that I bought on Saturday. All of the above cost in total less than £10. Sometimes just a tiny change like a picture or lampshade (obsessed!) can lift or alter the entire look of a room, at very little or no cost at all.

I moved my mannequin out of the bedroom while it was being painted and redecorated, but now she's back where she belongs. She's still dressed in the vintage style dress I made, but now she has been given a genuine vintage hat that I bought online a few weeks ago.. It's beautiful. I wonder if a bride ever wore it?
I hope you enjoyed taking a peek around my bedroom. It's not spectacularly amazing, or to everyone's taste, but it's pretty and I love it.
