Sewing Machine Practice

I haven't had much of a chance to play with the sewing machine yet. The fabric for the curtains has been cut, pinned and ironed, but I won't even attempt to sew them until I've practiced a lot. My straight lines are anything but at the moment!

In December I sent one of my Union Jack cushions to a friend in the States. I knew I'd have to make another one almost identical as I really liked it. I started working on it,but when it was almost finished, set it aside and forgot about it. When I wanted to practice this morning I remembered the cushion and decided to use it as practice. The front had already been handsewn, so all that was needed was sewing the cushion pad for inside, and attaching the back fabric of the cushion. Just straight line sewing, but also getting used to how the machine works, they are all different. I couldn't believe how quick it was to finish off the cushion. Something that has been hanging around since the 12th December, and niggling at the back of my mind as something that needed to be finished, had taken about 20 mintues to complete. Well, almost complete. I want to fray the white fabric more, to give it a 'been-around-for-20-years' affect, but it's more complete than it was when I got up this morning!

I will keep having small practice with the sewing machine, and aim to get the curtains made and up at some point in February.
