done!

I gave myself the rest of the week to work on the curtains. My little girl is a toddler, so I have to work on any projects around her and her naptime.

Despite that, I was able to finish off the first curtain, and complete the second. I'm still in shock!

This was my kitchen window first thing this morning (I took the photo around 8 a.m, so the light wasn't great, but you can see how dark the old gingham curtains were). And this is my kitchen window now.. It seemed perfectly fitting that the sun came out this afternoon, to smile on such pretty fabric!
The pink lining gives a gorgeous extra pink hue to the fabric when the sun shines. To anyone making curtains for a window as wide as this, I would suggest looking out for the 'extra wide' lining. It's fantastic to use. I didn't have to sew two pieces together to make it wide enough, it was already the perfect width. Another bonus is that it comes in a variety of colours. The silver curtain pole is actually metal rail for wardrobes. When we moved into this house, we couldn't find any curtain poles slim enough or long enough for the kitchen window, so we had to improvise. We found the metail rail in our local DIY shop.
I am of very average sewing skills, but I will always give things a try. If you would like to make your own curtains but feel a bit overwhelmed by it, I would suggest you go for it. Have confidence in yourself and try. Mine are not perfect - far from it - but from a distance they look fine. And that suits me!

Now all I need is to find the right shade of pink for the walls and my kitchen will be perfect.
