It's been on the 'To Do' list in my mind to make some kind of covers for the chairs, but of course, a sewing machine was vital, so I haven't had a chance to do it until now.I have thought about it alot though, and had worked out how I would make covers. Last night I finally made a start, and I took photos so I can show you how I did it.
Step 1.
Take your cat ravaged chair and frown at cat who is lurking in the distance.
Step 2.
Take your fabric (wrong side out), and cut and pin into place. Just follow the shape of your chair. I decided to keep the covers short, but you could easily take the fabric down to the floor. When you are happy with the positioning, trim the edges and tack along the seams.
Step 3.
Machine along the edges, then hem along the bottom. Turn the cover inside out so the correct side is showing, and slip over the chair.
The sharp eyed amongst you will notice that this is the curtain fabric again. I have enough to cover one more chair, but rather than buy more of the same fabric (much as I love it, I don't want it everywhere in the house!), we are going to buy two different floral fabrics. So we will have all chairs, floral covered, but not matching. I think two chairs in the same fabric, two in another, and two in a third fabric will be ideal, and it will look really pretty to have different florals around the table. I'll take a photo once all chairs have been recovered. As always with my handiwork, it's not in the slightest bit perfect, but it's not bad for a first attempt, and looks much better than having the guts of the chair spilling out of one side!
1 down, 5 to go!!!!
