cards

I love making my own cards. My style changes slightly each time, but the formula is the same. I tend to have a square (or rectangle) picture slightly off centre on the front of the card. At Christmas it's always the same thing: a photo of our little girl, a tinsel halo on her head. I use photograph corners to attach to the card, and then top with a tiny hand tied satin bow, or a satin rose, or as in the case of 2008, both. It's a very easy way of making a homemade card, but reasonably quick, and a lovely way of getting an up to date photo of our precious girl to family and friends.

Sometimes - if I have the time - I will sew small pictures using felt and embroidery thread. They really do take a lot of time to make, and if I want to send nothing but this style of card then I have to start sewing in late summer.

However, I have no problem whatsoever in 'cheating' and using the card embellishments sold in craft shops. I've spent a few hours making our Thank You cards today. I took these goodies from the craft shop.. I had pink tissue paper at home, and cut it into rough squares then glued onto thin tall pre made blank cards. The higgledy piggledyness of the picture flattens out as the glue dries. Not that that matters at all. I love to see wiggly lines in cards, it shows that it's been handmade. It's just a nice, quick, and easy way of making cards. I love the little circles with pale pink roses, so delicate.
