sewing

I haven't done much in the way of sewing for a long time. I have had something I wanted to make though. A spare cushion cover. Back in 2009 I couldn't stop making [Union Jack cushion covers]. I'd use old baby clothes or anything else I had hanging around. I made several, then the fun of it passed and I didn't make any more.

On the bed, I like lots of pillows, but I don't like lots of cushions. I just have one. It's my favourite.
The background of it is made from one of The Girls sleeping pods (how I miss the days of sleeping pods).
When I change the sheets, I put the cushion cover in the wash. The cushion is left bare until the cover is dry. I've been meaning to make a spare for months, but haven't got around to doing it. I wanted something seriously plain. Still a Union Jack, but pale as can be, with just the merest hint of a colour.

I grabbed my bag of fabrics and outgrown clothes and had a rummage.
I decided on a white and white and white colour scheme. An old duvet cover, satin dress lining, and sheer netting, just ruched up and stitched in place. The only colour came from pale pink velvet ribbon.
As always, I was too lazy to measure things out. Every single time I start sewing I think 'oh, I should measure this really', and I never do. I am too lazy, and I find it tedious. I cut and sew and hope for the best. Which means absolutely everything I make is riddled with mistakes. This is no exception.
But I don't care. I know where the mistakes are, I can live with them.

And if you really want to cover up a blindingly obvious error, just slap a big old flower in the middle!
It's made me want to do more sewing. Just not sure what to sew yet!
Bunting is always good fun to make, and I'll need a ton of it for The Girls party, so perhaps that should be top of my list.

As always, I'm sharing this to say to anyone who wants to try sewing something but lacks the confidence, to just give it a go! Who cares if it isn't "perfect"? You may well surprise yourself, and if you don't try you'll never know if you can make something or not.
