oh no you didn't!

Oh yes I did. I really didn't want orange pumpkins, and every time I saw them at the front door I felt a bit irritated. So. Out came the paint and I painted them white! Ha!

I wonder what the milkman thought early this morning, they are so very white that they almost glow. Must have been a bit eerie in the wee hours.
The flowes are from the garden, and arranging them in terracotta pots makes them look more natural to have by the door instead of the pitchers I had last week. A tip though, if you ever use terracotta pots as vases (inside or out), line them with something. Even if there isn't a hole at the bottom of the pot. Water will seep out, so you need a container inside to hold it, it can't be seen when flowers are added.
I felt a little guilty yesterday. It hasn't escaped my notice that there is absolutely nothing in the way of Halloween decoration in the house this year. Last year the house was totally decked out because the Girl was having a Halloween party. You can see the pics [here].
Partly because it took me ages to both decorate and then undecorate, and partly because we've had some work done around the house - with more to start on Monday - I just didn't want to put any up! Luckily, the Girl hasn't been too concerned, she certainly hasn't hassled me about it.

So I thought I'd add a smidge of Halloween, by way of a broom to the front door.
It isn't much, but it's as much as I can be bothered to add.

I had a little idea that popped in my head during the week. I'm sure I've seen this in a magazine at some point, but not sure which one.

Little fabric ghosties.
This was surprisingly quick and easy to do. It doesn't take much in the way of effort or time.

Blow up a balloon, keeping it small. Then place on top of a vase or jar, and cover with cling film (saran wrap). Then, take a piece of sheer fabric and drench in watered down PVA glue, and drape over the balloon. Leave to dry.
After a few hours, you can remove the ballooon and peel away the cling film. You're left with a ghostie shape. Add eyes and some string, and there you have it. A transparent ghost to hang up.

I photographed my ghost hanging from a tree just to show it clearly (let's ignore the fact that the glue was still a little wet right on the edges). But, it isn't suitable for being outdoors, the damp weather will soften the glue and make it go soggy. Ours is now hanging up in the dining room, and I have another to finish.
Girly Girl loved helping to make these.
It isn't very much, but at least it's something for Halloween. The house is going to be in a muddle for the first half of next week, so I can't be walking through cobwebby doors as well as chaos!

Enjoy your weekend.
