an elegant autumn

After making the fabric pumpkins that I didn't like (see previous post), I had to come up with a new idea.

Clay pumpkins.

Why did I not think of this before? Simple, relatively inexpensive, rather good fun to do too!

At the weekend we paid a visit to The Range so I could get some air drying clay. Then while the husband and the girl were out for the afternoon, I set to work. It was messy work but very enjoyable.
I stuck to my 'White Autumn' plan, using leftover paint I found in the garage. The white paint was leftover from painting the legs of the dining table, I chose it because it has a slight sheen to it. The green came from a tester pot.
So now I have three small white everlasting pumpkins, and I'm thinking of making more.
I made leaves, but decided against adding them to the pumpkins. Didn't like how they looked. I much prefer the addition of a few fronds of ivy from the garden. As they dry out I'll remove and replace with fresh. White and green is fresh and elegant, and stops it from looking too bland and pale (which is why I'm keeping pink candles once these have burned down, I like the little dollop of colour).
My little pumpkins aren't perfect, but it doesn't matter. I've got the look I wanted, and they were so easy to make it's ridiculous.
Elegant close up, but not from a distance when you see toys scattered around the room! Wouldn't change it though, it's so lovely seeing evidence of The Girl while she's at school.
