Half an hour later, she realised that Mummy was right.
We were going to put it in the charity bag, but then I remembered how I altered a dress I didn't wear into a skirt. I blogged about it [here].
So, I did the same thing to Girly Girls dress.
I removed the sash, and cut the skirt away from the bodice.
I attached the sash as a waistband, folding it in half, stiching it down on the inside (sorry if this makes no sense. I am not a seamstress, I don't know the technical terms, and I really do work it out as I go along).
After a bit of sewing, the front looked like this...
A problem though, how to keep the skirt on the waist? After lots of dithering, I went for the super simple option of threading elastic through the gap of the folded over waistband. Nothing tricky here!
I am sharing this with you to say how amazingly simple this is to do. Honestly, if I can do it, then absolutely anyone can do it. This is the second time I've turned a dress into a skirt, and all I can say is work with what you have, and take the easiest option you can think of. Who cares if it's not 'perfect'? Who cares if stitches are wonky? Really, who cares?! What I care about is a dress that was going to get thrown in a charity bag has a new lease of life.
And a little girl who was sad at the thought of losing a dress she loved, is now happy she can wear it for a little bit longer.
