sweeties & tinsel

I had lots that I wanted to get on with today, but I've let myself get sidetracked.

As it's December on Thursday, I thought I'd start trickling out the decorations. Working on a room at a time, starting with the kitchen. On Saturday afternoon I will work on the tree in the living room. It's safely snuggled in a bucket of water in the garage, ready for the magic of Christmas to transform it. Until then, I will plod on with getting Christmas out as and when I can. I can't do it as quickly as I would like, as the husband is currently painting the room that had it's flooring redone on Friday. This means the living room is full of furniture and clutter until Tuesday or Wednesday.

This morning I thought I'd get a little tree on a shelf in the kitchen. The smallest ones I have are pale pink. I've left one in tact, but the other one has been given a makeover. It was very easy to do. I just twirled inexpensive silver tinsel around the branches and stem, then hot glued in place. It took about half an hour to do, and cost nothing as I had the tinsel kicking around.
With lights, candy canes and a few lollipops, it was soon complete. You may recall that earlier this year I bought a glut of lollipops and candy necklaces. They have been bought with the intention of being used for a [Sweetie Christmas Tree], which I still intend to do. I bought so many that I can use some for other projects. I also bought some cellophane bags so I can make gingerbread men to tie to the tree, but keep them fresh and crisp.
It's always useful to stash away things like this, I love that I always have useful things squirrelled away.

On Saturday when I bought the latest edition of [Homes & Antiques], it had a packet of gift tags attached to the front. With no immediate plans for them, I put them to one side thinking I may find a use for them at some point.

Today, when I picked the girl up from school, she had a piece of paper asking for parents to give donations for the upcoming Christmas Fayre. They wanted things to put in the tombola and raffle. The bribe was that the children could wear their own clothes later this week in return for bringing something along. Blimey. What on earth could I give them?

The lollipops and candy canes were still on the kitchen table, and I had a sudden flash of inspiration. Little sweetie goody bags. Perfect.

I took a few cellophane bags, placed two lollipops, a candy cane and a couple of choccy coins in each one, then tied with silver string and finished off with one of the freebie gift tags. Quick, simple, festive, fun and cheap to do as I already had everything anyway. Can't help but feel really pleased about these. They look rather nice and were so quick and easy to put together. I think they're perfect for a school raffle.
