gingerbread haunted house

It's half term this week, so I have Gorgeous Girl home with me. She's excited, because on Friday she is hosting a Halloween party for some of her friends.

We have a lot of decorating to do this week, but we decided to start off by making a Gingerbread Haunted House.

I didn't have a template, so I made one from card and made sure it fitted together ... more or less... then used it to cut the shapes from the gingerbread dough.
It's a bit wonky and I really thought the whole thing was going to collapse, but it's just added to that haunted house feel! Or so I'm telling myself.

The basics of the haunted house are the same as making any other gingerbread house, which you can read about by clicking on the tab under the header graphic. The ghosts, skulls and monsters are shop bought cake decorations. Girly Girl and I made the pumpkins, and the grass and foliage on the house have been made from caster sugar, coloured with green and black food colouring. The house is glued together with icing sugar mixed with water and black food colouring.

It's far from perfect, but that's ok. I don't think a gaggle of 5 year olds will think too badly of me!
It's 100% edible, and I think it'll make a nice feature on the party food table.
