feeling seasonal

I really love this time of year. When the weather gets cold, the leaves start to fall, and there is lots to look forward to.
The house feels so cosy when it's grey and dark outside. With Gorgeous Girl back at school, I'm taking time to go for walks by myself each day. I don't bother so much when it's hot unless I need to go to the shops, but at this time of year it's a real pleasure to get out and enjoy the cool, chilly air.

On Sunday we took a jaunt to both [Dunelm Mill] and [The Range] to buy a few bits and pieces.

It was with total excitement that we spotted The Range had a small selection of Halloween goodies out already. Gorgeous Girl in particular was delighted, because for some reason (certainly not my encouragement), she absolutely LOVES Halloween. Each year we have to go into town to the balloon shop, and see if they have the Halloween Hello Kitty balloon that she likes. Last year, I copied it and made a litte outfit for one of her HK toys to wear all year round. So when we spotted the Halloween goodies, well, we just had to buy some didn't we?!
The lanterns in the top photo are a total bargain, just £1 each. If you like them and have a branch of The Range near you, I would suggest buying them quickly. At that price they won't hang around. I bought 7 in total. I've told Girly Girl that she can have a little Halloween party this year, and I think they'd look rather nice lit either side of the front garden path.

Not quite as keen on these, but at least they aren't real. There were also outfits. My little rascal spent most of Sunday being a barefoot witch! Just over a week ago, this little chap was spotted in the garden. So the husband dug out the Hedgehog House he made a few years ago. Cleaned it up, bought some hay to put inside, and put it where the hedgehogs can find it. Don't you just love that he's placed it on top of a small piece of carpet first?! Honestly, I wouldn't be suprised if he'd put a little chair and a stack of magazines in there too. If you were wondering, I can tell you that the hedgehogs have used this house in the past. I forgot what it was once and lifted it up to move it. I found a curled up hedgey sleeping right up against the back of it. I screamed (as you do!) because I hadn't actually expected anyone to be in it!

If you are like me, and like to start buying things for Christmas nice and early, then Dunelm is the place for you. There isn't a huge amount, but I managed to track down some fairy lights.
