busy bee

Is it a bee? It could be, but I'm not sure. All I know is it was pretty and I had to have it.

I have plenty keeping me busy this week (and I'm not just talking about the never ending laundry, housework, cooking, cleaning, and general every day stuff). Tuesday started with a brisk walk in to town.
And of course, we stopped off at Primark!

On Saturday I saw a really pretty sparkly strawberry necklace, but I didn't buy it because the chain and background metal was gold. I don't like gold, I prefer silver, so I put it back. When I showed it to Gorgeous Girl yesterday morning, she said 'you have to get it mum, I love it'. So I did. So pretty, and as it was a very sunny day yesterday, it sparkled like crazy.

I was in Primark to buy a couple of t-shirts.
Last year some of you may recall I followed a tutorial to make a ruffled t-shirt. You can read last year's post [Here]. The idea came from an inspirational site, [tea rose home]. I've only worn the t-shirt a couple of times, as the neckline was too high.
I decided to buy a couple of new ones, and try again. I found pretty pale pink t-shirts, and bought two (just £3 each).
Unfortunately, Primark seem to LOVE high necked t-shirts. Which are fine if you are going to sleep in them, but otherwise, not all that flattering.
So, I decided to cut the neckline. Which is actually a stupid thing to do. I knew it would be, but I couldn't help it. I'd made up my mind and I was going to cut it, and cut it I would. End of.
Here are the tops at the start, you can see the cut and pinned neckline (do not try this method of altering a neckline, it's so wrong). After a lot of cutting and sewing, I ended up with this ruffled top. The photo makes it look a lot better than it does in real life. But for a total of £7.45 (the matching thread was £1.45), I think it will be fine for poodling around in the garden on a hot summer's day. I wouldn't wear it out, but for around the house and garden it's fine.

I even made the details this time, of two roses and a piece of string (last time I made the roses but left out the string). Even though I'm not completely happy with it, I do enjoy making ruffly tops in this way. I feel confident in doing it too. It's always good to use something inexpensive to experiment on. Next time I plan on using dark coloured tops, because I'm happier in dark tops, and ruffles tend to add a few extra inches! When I find a t-shirt with a nice neckline, I won't hesitate in buying two and turning into a ruffled fronted t-shirt.
If you want to give yourself a little challenge, and try this, then I would say do give it a whirl. It takes a bit of time, but it isn't too tricky. If you follow the original instructions on Tea Rose Home, then it's actually quite easy.

Today I want to make time to alter another necklace. Another Primark buy. I love so many of the little charms on this, but don't like the big old chunky chain they are attached to. I'm going to use a smaller chain, and rejiggle the charms a bit. It has a tassel hanging on it, which I'm going to remove and link together so it can be used it as a base chain, and not have any tassel. I bought the sparkly bee necklace so I could add the bee to the necklace too.

Oh, and before I forget. Primark had another wicker style bag in. Black with brown trim. I think I prefer it to the white version.
