tiny chalkboard

when I gave the pantry it's [little makeover] at the start of the year, I mentioned that it wasn't completely finished. I had little additions and alterations that I wanted to make over the coming months.
One was to source a tiny little chalkboard to hang on the inside door. Something very small and lightweight, just so I could scribble a note to myself at the time of rootling for something only to find I had run out or was running low. If I don't write things down, I forget them.

I've had no luck in finding anything both small enough, or suitable. But then an idea entered my head yesterday.

I went into the garage and came back with three things. An old chalkboard that belonged to Gorgeous Girl but she no longer used. A little sample paint pot, and a picture frame (that had already had the 'Sadie Treatment' at some point).
You can see how small I wanted the board to be by the measurements in the frame.

I removed the glass, and painted the frame (and of course, scuffed it up a bit once dry). With the frame ready, I put a piece of chalkboard cut to fit snugly inside, and secured at the back. I was surprised at how easy it was to cut the chalkboard down. I had visions of needing a saw, or giving the jigsaw a quick blast, but in the end all it took was a pair of sturdy scissors! Children's chalkboards these days are made up of some kind of fibreboard and painted with a black paint. You can buy chalkboards cheaply enough, for around a pound in places like The Range. The ideal price if you want to carve it up and reframe.

When it was finished, I screwed an eye hook into the top of the frame, and attached it to the inside of the door, just below the inspiration board. I don't really need pasta or olive oil, but it looked nicer than 'mustard'.
The velvet bow is just to cover up the eye hook use to attach it to the door.I'm really pleased. I'm not sure if I would have found such a small chalkboard in the shops, and by making it myself I've been able to recycle an old chalkboard, picture frame, and use a paint sample to decorate.

The sun has been out!
To celebrate, Gorgeous Girl and I braved the still very blustery weather and went to play at the park. I noticed that there were daisies out, so we picked one to bring home. And just because I couldn't resist it, I added yet another heart wreath to the front garden, above the bench. The sun is still out today, and the wind has finally died down. I'm going to throw open the kitchen windows, let in some crisp, cold air, and give the kitchen a good clean!
