Inspiration ~ it's a funny old thing!

I never know when something is going to inspire me, and when inspiration hits then that's it, I have to go along with it. It hangs around in my mind until I do something about it.
It started over the weekend, whilst leafing through my copy of 'Homes & Antiques', I saw a photo full of jewellery that looked so familiar, I thought that I could make a pretty decent version of it. So I did.
This is the photo from the magazine. And this is my photo, made up of my costume jewellery and a corsage bought from Asda two years ago. I just enjoyed being able to create a photo incredibly similar to one in a magazine, I really felt inspired to do so and enjoyed being a copy cat!

My second wallop of inspiration came whilst ironing this afternoon. It was sunny, and as I hung up the laundry to finish drying, the sun shone brightly onto it. Yep, I'm showing you my laundry. Just be grateful it's nothing more than a towel I'd hung up to dry, a flannel, and two of Gorgeous Girls items. As long as I've been sensible over the weekend, Monday is a light laundry day!

For Reason Unknown (probably the pinkness of the sunshiney laundry), it made me think of Valentine's Day, and dressing Gingerbread House for it. Sometimes I neglect Gingerbread House. I used to make sure it was decorated differently each season, and for different celebrations and holidays during the year. Since becoming a Mum things have slipped a bit, and I don't always get the chance to get out there and make the changes. I'm trying to correct that.

I took some pink gingham fabric and turned into new curtains, attached the heart shaped wreath I leave on the door over spring/summer to one of my [vintage style net wreaths] and hung on the door. Of course I made some bunting, but I'm going to replace with some that's more suited to Valentine's Day once I've bought more fabric. I moved Gorgeous Girls little bench and placed in front of the house, during the summer months it lives in the shaded part of the bottom of the garden, next to the fairy doors.
Gingerbread Garden needs to be sorted out soon. I like to grow veggies in there, but noticed last year it wasn't terribly deep (due to the house being built on the patio, half of the little garden has slabs beneath it!). This year it needs to be raised before we start planting, so the roots have more room to grow.
When I went back inside, I hung another heart wreath in the house. It may well end up on the front door this year. It'll depend on the weather! I have a few more heart garlands to hang up, but I'll do that closer to Valentine's Day.

And after all that, I decided to make a few lavender bags.
When I moved the chest of drawers on Friday, I knew I'd want to make something to scent the drawers. They had rarely been used, so had a slightly woody smell once opened.

I remembered that last year for Mother's Day, my gift from GG had included a bunch of dried lavender.
I grabbed the lavender, and a length of sheer fabric that I had kicking around, and set to work. If you can cut fabric and sew a straight line either by hand or machine, you can make these. Nothing difficult here!
Hem the top and bottom of the fabric, then fold in half and stitch down each side, thus making a pocket. Don't worry if it isn't all perfectly straight or matched, it doesn't matter at all. Regular readers will know by now that 'good enough' will do for me! No striving for perfection here; I like wiggly lines and little faults. Turn right side out and fill with lavender, tie tops together with a bow. I didn't bother to remove the flower heads from the stems, I just cut them and placed in whole. There you are. Nice and easy to make, lovely to smell.

Even though it was cold-coldy-cold outside, when the Little Lady realised I was putting new curtains in Gingerbread House, she wanted to come outside with me.

We had fun blowing bubbles in the cold air .. looking at Spring flowers bursting into life, And sliding down the slide - she really should have had a coat on but managed to worm her way out before I pinned her down and put one on ~ Bad Mummy! It really has been quite an inspirational start to the week, in one way or another.
