a glittery weekend

I *think* I've just about hoovered up every last trace of glitter. It has been a bit of a glitter fest this weekend!

Yesterday I managed to give my very depleted stash of glitter and ribbon a much needed boost. It's quite hard to get very fine glitter, most of it seems to be made up of large flakes which for lack of a better word, can look a bit cheap. A finer glitter gives a softer sparkle and looks classier ~ in my opinion! I've found the best place for fine glitter is [The Range]. It's about £1.49 a tube (the large tubes in the photo), and as long as you do as you were taught at school and work on paper or newspaper so you can re-use all the fallen glitter, you can make each tube go a long way. Almost all of the glitter you seen in the photo has come from The Range, the prices vary, but all are made up of lovely fine flakes.

I also got the chance to rush into my favourite haberdashery shop in town to buy some ribbon. I could spend ages in there, but lack of time usually prevents me from doing so. I spotted some gorgeous glitter, so picked up two tubes in the very delicious chocolately~bronze colour you see at the top of this post. Yep, I'm glittering the pumpkins again this year! So far I've been unable to find any of the [Munchkin Pumpkins] I used last year, I've been buying the smallest of the regular pumpkins instead. It takes a bit longer to glue, glitter, let dry and start again, but it's not exactly difficult, and Gorgeous Girl LOVES sparkly pumpkins! After looking at the photo, I decided to tie a bow to the stem of the pumpkin as a finishing touch. Pretty! With the delivery of wooden letters, and my new stash of glitter, I was able to get working on the birthday garland, started earlier in the week. Before I forget, I have found an even better site than the previous one I shared. My latest wooden letters came from [Infinite]. They are inexpensive, delivery both fair & incredibly swift, and you can even select size and font. I give them 10/10.
If you don't particularly care for font and size option, but want something cheap and cheerful - perhaps for the children to paint and help learn their Alphabet with - then another trip to The Range is called for. I bought these basic wooden letters yesterday for £1.99. Not as elegant and slightly chunky, but hey, for such a good price who cares?! Once painted up or glittered over, they'll look fine. So now my garland is finished. I added a spacer in between 'Birthday' and 'Wishes', for no other reason than I liked the card with the bird and her plumed crown. I didn't want a letter to cover the bird up. All paper/fabric used to decorate the cards are from my stock of Laura Ashley samples. I don't collect samples for this purpose, it's just that I end up gathering so many samples when we are redecorating that using them in this way is a superb example of recycling! The finished garland. Not easy to read it from this photo, but in Real Life the greeting is clear. This week will see me start on at least one new garland, I'm in the mood to make more :o)

Finally. My other little project this weekend.
This is Naught-Nee, Gorgeous Girls faithful friend. He's never far away (but if he is I go into PANIC MODE until I find him!). I often have to make him outfits to match GG's dressing up attire. We're all off to a Halloween party next month, so I was asked to make Naught-Nee a Halloween costume as he'll be going with us (of course!).

What does a pink cat go to a Halloween party as?

A black cat of course!!!! This is what I made for him yesterday using black and pink felt, some feathers and a couple of pipe cleaners (you can't tell from the photo, but he has a felt covered pipe cleaner attached to the back for his tail)! I can certainly say this has been a bit of a creative weekend :o)
