feeling summery

After several days of blustery, chilly, rainy weather, summer has returned. Can't say I'm overjoyed, but it had to happen at some point. At least I get to wear favourite shoes again. And fresh flowers from the garden are dotted around the house, in various vases and jam jars. Hurrah, I can pick peonies again!such a treat I'm waiting for the delivery of a rug for the dining room, and then the room is finished. While I would much prefer to be able to show a redecorated room quickly, the bonus to doing it over time means there are bargains to be had and money to be saved. The curtains were made to measure, so no discount there, but the paint, wallpaper, and now the rug have all been included in special offers at Laura Ashley. Feels even better to know we've saved quite a bit by taking our time.

I had no choice to work on a quick makeover in the hallway. After years of hard work, the coat stand finally gave up on Sunday after it fell to the ground, broke in three places and one of the hooks smashed off! It couldn't be fixed, so it had to go out. It left the hallway looking tidy and spacious. Something was missing though. I thought about it, then snaffled the floor lamp from the upstairs landing (we didn't use it, we tend to just use the flower fairy lights around the mirror rather than the lamp), and put it in the place of the hatstand. It gives a really cosy, autumnal feel which I love. This is the kind of makeover I really enjoy. quick to do and completely free. (However, the runner will be changed at some point. I've got my beady eye on a Laura Ashley one ~ of course!)

Sometimes, the tiniest change can make the biggest difference. We have never had any lights in the hallway, other than ceiling lights. This looks so much better. Why not try it for yourself? Glance around your home, and see if you can change something around. A lamp, a table, a mirror, a picture. Even a vase of flowers in a different place. It can give a room a completey different feel with very little effort.

I must say, that one of the worst things about summer in England is the obsession with sport on TV. I am not impressed. The World Cup dominates the TV schedule, and Ascot was included last week too. Now we have Wimbledon added to the football. TV chiefs seem to think we all want to watch sport non stop all day and all night, when in actual fact, not all of us do!!!!
Important football match this afternoon though. I will watch bits of it - as much as I can stand. The entire country will come to a standstill to watch it, so I hope the England lads can work some magic this time and do well!!!!
