Gorgeous Girl and I have been keeping ourselves busy and out of the way. Gardening, drawing, reading, playing games on the Cbeebies website, sewing, a touch of online shopping here and there, and just keeping away from the work as much as possible.
So, this is some of what I've been up to this week.
Vintage plates. I've taken a lazy short cut, and rather than hunt them down myself, I ordered a set of six mismatched side plates from [not on the high street.com]
Out in the garden, I decided to go for it and start planting out my plant babies. The weather has gone insane again, some days sunny, some days showery, always chilly and blustery. But, it's May and plants should be out now. I thought I'd show you my little Do It Yourself trellis I've put together for the pot containing runner beans and tomatoes (I believe if having very full pots on the patio).
very simple to do. Four canes pushed into the soil and tied together at the top. I tie garden twine around securely, then tie twine diagonally so the tendrils have something to help them climb. I always tie a plastic pot to the top of the canes. I am totally paranoid about someone tumbling and falling on uncovered canes, so I thread twine through the holes and secure to the canes. It looks quirky, but gives me peace of mind. I love doing my own supports like this, cheaper than buying overpriced tat from the shops and simple to dismantle after use. I sewed another lampshade cover and dyed with tea. This time I've made it extra ruffly, and I left the older one on underneath, so it hasn't gone to waste. As you can see, I've opted to leave the roses off, I prefer it plain and for the ruffles to do all the talking.

Shower room. Progress is slow, but changes are happening.
At this moment in time it looks like this.
I am realistic, and knew it would take the best part of two weeks to do, but deep down I really hoped the workman would be some kind of miracle worker and complete it in a week! Well, a girl can dream. I'm just ready for the house to be ours again, rather than a bit of a building site. We had planned on changing the flooring in the hallway, on the stairs and upstairs landing, but I can't face any further disruption this year. This is more than enough for me to deal with, so anything else major can wait until next year now.I am not being ungrateful, it's just incredibly hard to keep an inquisitive girl and a naughty cat out of the way, as well as run the household as it needs to be run. Hard work! I'm just trying to keep focused on how lovely it will be when it's all finished.
The house feels a total mess, there is no point in pushing the hoover around or dusting, as it would soon be messed up again.
Still. It's getting there, and once the floor is dried completely, everything can be installed.
I am loving the floor tiles. They are utter perfection.
I haven't checked my yahoo email accounts at all this week, so if I owe anyone an email then I apologise. I'm sure life will continue to be topsy turvy next week, but at least the end is in sight... sort of!
