small details

organza bows Still plodding away with my Christmas prep. I've gone organza crazy. In the summer, for my little girls birthday, I tied two roughly cut pieces of cream organza on the lollipop trees that stand either side of the front door, and tied in oversized bows. I loved the look, so decided that I'd do it again for Christmas. This time they need have a bit more substance as they'll be out for a lot longer than the two days I had them out for during summer. I've hemmed the edges (nightmare!) and stitched into bows of approximately the same size. To attach securely to the trees, pipe cleaners have been pushed through the back of the centre piece. I've already got lights on the trees, but they don't show up very well in this photo as I took it during the day.lollipop tree For someone who doesn't enjoy sewing with it, I certainly seem to spend a lot of time with organza under the foot of the sewing maching!sewingI need to buy a plain white tablecloth - or flat sheet - to use on Christmas Day. On top of which I will place my brilliantly creased (purposely) piece of grey organza, followed by a net layer (once I've bought it), then the piece of pale ice blue organza that I bought last week, and topped with the snowflake runner. I always have a practice run before Christmas, to see what else I need. I also like to group everything together as I gather it, so I can see how things are going to look. You can see from this photo how silver has emerged as the main theme, which wasn't intentional, it just seemed to happen. table decoration I like to have layers of sheer and plain fabric on tables as it gives a really luxurious and sumptuous feel. Makes it seem really special. I want to get into town and buy some cream coloured dressmaking net to add to the layers. I'll wash it first to soften and crumple it, then have it underneath the top layer of organza.
The little round votive holders are a super duper bargain. Just £1.99 each from [The Range].candle holder I'm loving quite a few things from The Range at the moment. They may not look brilliantly good up close and under inspection, but from a distance they look perfect and are a purse-friendly price. The sparkly napkin rings were a 'Range' purchase earlier this year.

On Christmas Day, the table will be finished off with the mercurised vases filled with creamy white and pale pink flowers.

I found some more chandelier style tree decorations. They are the most inexpensive of all, but I have to say that they are the most sparkly and will look fabulous on the tree. sparkles! £3.00 for 24 from [Asda]. Bargain! 'Haven't you been buying lots of decorations in this style?' you might be asking. Well, yes, I have, but I've found another home for them and don't want to move them. They're hanging on the ceiling light in the kitchen and I like how they sparkle when the sun shines through the window! light See? I can't possibly move them from there, I had to buy more! ;o)

Ooh, and remember the unpainted NOEL letters I got from [The Wooden Letters Company]? Well, I finished them. I kept it plain and painted them creamy white. I decided against adding glitter, and I'm glad I did. After Christmas I want to order the letter 'V', so I can spell out 'love' instead. Noel, Noel....
